Maybe bubble gum can’t solve all the problems in the world, but it sure saved my day on Friday!
You see, I was waiting on a client to arrive for a scheduled showing. I had the key already out of the lockbox, sitting on a piece of paper, while I fidgeted with the radio. I bumped the paper, the key slid to the passenger side floor board. I reached over to get it and accidentally pushed it out of my reach. Ugh.
I got out and walked to the other side of the car so I could get a better angle. But the key had slid through a slot in the floorboard. I could get my fingers into the slot, and at the very tip of my finger, I could feel the key, but I could not grasp it. Hmm… “Great” I thought.
Looking around my car I wondered what might help me get this stupid key. I had a magnet in the car, so I tried that first. I guess it wasn’t strong enough. I was afraid to use something like a pen to get it for fear it would push it further from my grasp. Then, the idea occurred to me. GUM.
I wasn’t sure if it would work, but it was worth a try. I chewed up a piece of gum and stuck it to the end of my finger, then reached for the key again. Guess what? It WORKED! The gum stuck to the key enough for me to pull it closer to the opening where I could grasp it. I almost couldn’t believe it worked. But, phew!
My client arrived a short time later and I was able to show the home and return the key to the lockbox like a responsible REALTOR is supposed to do.
Note to self – ALWAYS keep Bubble Gum handy. You just never know when you’ll need it.
