Education in Loudoun County:

Loudoun County Public Schools are ranked Above Average for Virginia by US News and World Report.

Loudoun County is home to dozens of private schools ranging from pre-K to high school as well.

The Loudoun County Public Library systems maintains eight locations as well as a mobile library service.

The university campus locations of Strayer University, George Washington University, Patrick Henry College, Northern Virginia Community College, Shenandoah University, and George Mason University bring both students and employment to the area.

Employment in Loudoun County:

The largest employers in Loudoun County are the public school system and the county government. Additionally Loudoun County is home to several large technology employers such as Orbital, Raytheon, Neustar, and AOL. Dulles airport is a source of many jobs from employers such as the Department of Homeland Security, United Airlines, and Air Service Corporation. Many residents commute from Loudoun to locations all over the DC Metro area for Federal contracting work.

Transportation in the area:

Loudoun County is home to Dulles International Airport and  Leesburg Executive Airport. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority operates a Metrorail with future stations planned in Loudoun County.

Virginia Regional Transit operates bus routes within Loudoun and connecting Loudoun to adjacent population centers. The Loudoun County government also operates regular commuter bus routes from “park and ride” lots around the county.

Loudoun County has direct access to/from Maryland via Rte 15 in Leesburg and Rte 287 in Lovettsville. Points east can be reached locally via Rte 7 or at higher speed via the Greenway and Dulles toll road Rte 267. Points West can be accessed via Rtes 7 and 9. Enter/leave Loudoun County to the south via Rte 28 or Rte 15.

Loudoun County Recreation:

You’ve heard that Loudoun is “DC’s Wine Country” and it is true that we are home to over 40 wineries, and counting. Spend a day vineyard-hopping, tasting, and touring.

Loudoun is home to five regional parks, including the famous W&OD trail. The County itself maintains dozens of parks, and many more parks are maintained by the individual towns and HOAs.

Adjacent to the Potomac River, Loudoun is home to boat and kayak launches and a ferry crossing to Maryland. The Appalachian Trail runs just beyond the county line, offering exciting hiking options.
